Meter Site Types

Meter Site Types are used to indicate the role that a meter site plays in a utility system. For example, some meter sites are duplicates that are used to validate other readings and therefore should not be used in consumption calculations. The meter site type values you define populate the Meter Site Type drop-down menu on the Create Utility and Readings pages.

To open the Meter Site Types page:

  1. Open the Administration Menu page.

  2. Under the UTILITY ADMINISTRATION heading, click Meter Site Types.

Adding a meter site type allows you to define the values that are included in the Meter Site Type drop-down menu on the Create Utility and Readings pages. To create a new meter site type:

  1. Click the Add Meter Site Type link.

    The Add Meter Site Type dialog box opens.

  2. In the Name field, enter a name for the meter site type.

    The name you enter must be unique.

  3. In the Tab Order field, enter a numeric value.

    The Tab Order indicates the position, in menus, where this value will be listed. Lower numbered values are displayed toward the top of the list. Values will the same tab order will be sorted alphabetically.

  4. In the Description field, enter a description of the meter site type.

  5. In the Active field, select Yes if this meter site type is active.

  6. Select any of the following check boxes to enable a meter site type option.

    • Production Meter Site – Select this check box if this meter site measures the production of a utility.
    • Consumption Meter Site – Select this check box if this meter site measures the amount of this utility used.
    • Deduct Meter Site – Select this check box if this meter site captures excess production readings which should be deducted from the totals to prevent over billing.
    • Include in systems total calculation – Select this check box if this meter site values should be used when calculating production (for example, redundant/back meters should be excluded).
    • Available for Invoice – Select this check box if this meter site can be invoiced against. If selected, meter sites of this type are included in the Meter Site drop-down menu on the Utility – Enter Invoice page and will not appear on the Readings - Manual page.
    • Requires Allocation - For installations using Non-Profit Fund Accounting (NPFA), select this check box if this meter site type must be associated with a billable account for calculating and closing a billing period.
  7. Click ADD.

    The meter site type is added to the list. The name of the user who added the meter site type and the date and time when it was added are displayed.

Meter site types can be modified. For example, if you want to change the value that users see, you can modify the name. To edit a meter site type:

  1. Click the Edit link to the right of the meter site type you want to edit.

    The Edit Meter Site Type dialog box opens.

  2. Modify any of the following values:

    • Name – the value that users see
    • Tab Order – the position in which the meter site type will be displayed in drop-down menus
    • Description – information about the meter site type
    • Active – Yes indicates that the meter site type is active
    • Production Meter Site – indicates that this meter site measures utility production
    • Consumption Meter Site – indicates that this meter site measures utility consumption
    • Deduct Meter Site – indicates that this meter site measures excess production readings
    • Include in systems total calculation – indicates that this meter site reading should be included in consumption calculations
    • Available for Invoice – indicates that this meter site can be invoiced against
    • Requires Allocation - indicates that this meter site must be associated with a billable account for calculating and closing a billing period
  3. Click UPDATE.

    The modified meter site type parameters, including the name of the user who edited them and the date and time when they were edited, are displayed.

ClosedDelete a Meter Site Type

Meter site types that have not been used can be deleted from the system. If a meter site type has been associated with a meter site, it cannot be deleted.

If a meter site type has been used but is no longer needed, you can edit it and make it inactive to prevent it from being displayed to users.

To delete a meter site type:

  1. Click the Edit link to the right of the meter site type you want to delete.

    The Edit Meter Site Type dialog box opens.

  2. Click the Delete link in the top right corner of the dialog box.

    A dialog box opens asking you to confirm your choice.

  3. Click OK.
